Natural Life

Natural Life: Cosmetics & Hair Care Part 1

In 2009, I began to make the slow transition to a more natural life. A natural life to me means using less or no harsh chemicals in the cosmetics, skin care and food products that I buy. This transition only started with the purchase of a few Aveda products that I had bought when I was in NYC for college. These items included Brilliant Universal Styling Creme (hair), Brilliant Anti-Humectant Pomade (hair) and Botanical Kinetics Exfoliant (face), all of which are superbly effective (and they had better be considering their prices).

A few years earlier, around 2004 I had read an article in an alternative newspaper called Evergreen Monthly. The article was about how potentially harmful deodorant with aluminum chlorohydrate is, the article also talked about the fact that most major personal care products have harmful chemicals that are hormone scramblers, skin irritants and carcinogens. I was shocked but wasn't really surprised.

Back then none of the brands of natural products were accessible on the mass market in my price range and at that time I figured that they were too expensive. I would have liked to transition my product use right then and there but I didn't.

However, these days I have been able to gradually make many product transitions to milder and natural products. For instance, now I use Bare Escentuals mineral make up, Aveda skin and hair care products, Origins skin care products, Burt's Bees skin care products and plain pure ingredients such as vegetable glycerin, shea butter, jojoba oil and coconut oil.

After discovering and using these products I have noticed an obvious and immediately positive  change in my hair and skin and I wouldn't even want to go back to my old, cheap, highly toxic products.

It will surely make a big difference in your skin, hair and over all health. And the best part of going natural is that most of the products can be used sparingly and they last a long time which keeps costs down.

So that is my story of my new natural life and I hope that it will inspire others to try natural products. Stay tuned for the natural life part two about food.
